Computer Systems Group Policies


Priorities of the efforts of the Computer Services Group:

The primary function of the Computer Systems Group is to maintain the
integrity and security of the computing and network infrastructures in
the ECE building. The following equipment is essential to everyone in
the ECE Department. For this reason, problems relating to the following
equipment will receive the highest priority from the Computer Systems
Group and will get their immediate attention:
  • Network Cabling
  • Network Equipment (building switches, hubs, etc.)
  • File Servers
  • Mail Server
  • Web Server
  • Authentication Server
  • SunRay Server
  • ECE access labs (232,250)
After infrastructure needs are satisfied, jobs are prioritized based on the following criteria:
  1. Urgent instructional computing needs are addressed first.
  2. Problems affecting faculty and staff offices are addressed second.
  3. Requests for assistance from undergraduate students are addressed third.
  4. Requests for assistance from graduate students are addressed fourth.
  5. Problems or requests for assistance from research labs are addressed last.

Scope of Responsibility:

The Computer Systems Group is responsible only for maintaining the security and functionality of those machines under its exclusive administrative control. When requested, assistance will be given to users or groups with administrative access to their equipment.

Communication:

The most efficient way to communicate with the Computer Systems Group is via email to help@ece.arizona.edu. Messages sent to help@ece.arizona.edu are read by every member of the Computer Systems Group. If email access is not available, a voice message may be left at 520-621-6207.

ECE Class Web pages and links:

To request a class web account just e-mail help@ece.arizona.edu and provide the class number and let us know the name of the person who needs the password.

ECE Class links management:

All class links will be removed during the Winter Break and July 1st. Faculty/ta's can request new links by sending an e-mail to help@ece.arizona.edu when the new pages are ready. Archives for the current semester will be provided on request.

Software/Hardware Support for ECE Classes:

To make sure that your requests are handled by the start of the semester in which they are needed,
  1. All software or hardware requests for the Fall Semester must be given to the Computer Systems Group by the April 15.
  2. All software or hardware requests for the Spring Semester must be given to the Computer Systems Group by November 15.
There will be no exceptions. Requests received after the indicated dates will be dealt with in accordance to the above priority list. A representative for the class should be available to test the software before the beginning of each semester and during the semester to insure proper configuration.
