The ECE department has outstanding faculty who are actively engaged in a variety of creative, scholarly endeavors. Home to 10 IEEE Fellows and 3 NSF CAREER Award Winners, UA ECE is a very active and engaged Department. Our team-oriented research efforts regularly involve multiple investigators often from other Departments within the College of Engineering and various academic units on campus which serves to imbue a vitality to the ardor of innovation.

In 2004, we had a significant increase in research awards, totaling $6.9 million. These include:

• A $2.8 million DARPA project in optics led by Professor Mark Neifeld
• A $500k award to Professor Bernie Zeigler by Northrop Grumman for Arizona Center of Integrative Modeling and Simulation activities
• A $1 million Congressional Plus-up for Network Security under Prof. J. Rozenblit’s leadership
• Connection One center continues to thrive and ramp-up its activities with a total of $525,000 funding
