425/525 Image Science and Engineering
3 units, Spring Semester, Properties of optical images and image forming systems; acquisition and manipulation of digital images; two-dimensional Fourier representation; image quality criteria; introduction to image processing. 2 Engineering Science units, 1 Engineering Design unit. Prerequisite: 340 Engineering Systems Analysis. Graduate-level requirements include additional homework, and a term project.

 
531 Image Processing Laboratory for Remote Sensing
3 units, Fall Semester, Techniques and applications of digital image processing in remote sensing, multispectral image enhancement and analysis, classification, feature extraction for cartography, rule-based systems for mapping from imagery. 3 hours of recitation and 1 hour of laboratory per week. Identical with OPTI 531.

3 units, Spring Semester, Image transforms, filter design, spectrum estimation, enhancement, restoration, data compression and reconstruction from projections. Identical with OPTI 533

1 unit, Spring and Fall Semester, Required for all ECE graduate students (MS - 1 unit), PhD - 2 units in separate semesters). Emphasis on professional writing, publication, and career tools. Oral and PowerPoint presentation required by all students.
