Donald G. Dudley is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering. His principal interests are in electromagnetic theory, applied
mathematics, wireless propagation in tunnels, inverse theory, and down-borehole geophysics. He holds the B.S.
degree from Virginia Tech and the M.S. and
Ph.D. degrees from UCLA. Professor Dudley is a
Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and
Founding Editor of the IEEE Press Series on Electromagnetic Wave Theory (24
titles). He is the author of over 70 papers and 200 abstracts in
electromagnetics, plus the book Mathematical Foundations for Electromagnetic
Theory. In 1997, with two colleagues, he was awarded the Schelkunoff Prize
for Best Paper of the Year in the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation.
In 2000, he was awarded an IEEE Third Millennium Medal.
In 2002, he was
presented with the Chen-To Tai Distinguished Educator Award by the IEEE
Antennas and Propagation Society, for “outstanding contributions to
education in the field of antennas and propagation through teaching,
published books, and journal articles, and stewardship of the IEEE Press
Series on Electromagnetic Waves.”
Professor Dudley is a member of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI).
He is a past Chairman of the U.S. Commission
on Fields and Waves and Member of the U.S. National Committee (USNC). At
the University of Arizona, he is one of the founding members of the Program in
Applied Mathematics. He served eight years as the Director of the
Electromagnetics Laboratory and has been twice elected by students the Outstanding Professor of
the Year in the College of Engineering and Mines.
Professor Dudley is married with four children and five grandchildren. He is
a tournament tennis player, and is the pianist and arranger with the Tucson-based
musical performing group, The Dry River Band.
