Special Issue
on Active Middleware Services
The dramatic increase of internet-based applications and the proliferation of
networking technologies has been transforming most areas of computer
science and
engineering as well as computational science and commercial application areas.
This provides an outstanding opportunity to explore new, internet-oriented
software technologies that will open new research and application
opportunities
not only for the multimedia and commercial world, but even for the scientific
and high-performance computing applications community.
This special issue will present research results in the areas of
active networks, mobile and intelligent agents, software tools for high
performance distributed computing, network operating systems, and application
programming models and environments to brainstorm and collaborate on
defining a framework for the realization of active service-based software
applications, development environments, and the required network and
runtime support infrastructure.
Topics of Interest:
Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to the following:
- Intelligent networks, agents and scouts.
- Programmable and active networks.
- Proxies and middleware architecture for deploying remote agents.
- Service dissemination and discovery protocols.
- Security in active service environments.
- Environments and algorithms for the development of scout applications.
- Compilation and runtime support for intelligent, adaptive scouts.
- Programming paradigms, applications, and requirements for active Grids.
- Grids as integral nodes embedded in global active networks.
