Master Control Station Hardware/Software Architecture

The NAVSTAR Master Control Station is the element which will benefit the most from a redesign using DCE methodology and new technology. This component currently is based on a dual shared-memory mainframe architecture and nonstandard intra-site communications. Its requirements are as follows:

1. Large floating point calculation capability (to perform ephemeric and time correction calculations).

2. Extreme reliability is required.

3. Large data storage/database is assumed to be required (historical satellite database, system logs, mission planning information database).

4. Large general-purpose computing capability is assumed to be required (mission planning/admin).

5. Open system technology should be used where possible for long-term reliability, maintainability.
