Abstract:

In this talk, Jerzy Rozenblit will discuss the techniques his team is developing to “predict the unpredictable.” The methods and resulting software will have military and civilian implications in finance, law enforcement, epidemiology, and the aftermath of natural disasters.

Biography:

Jerzy is Raymond J. Oglethorpe Endowed Professor and Head of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at The University of Arizona as well as Professor of Surgery in the College of Medicine. During his tenure, he established the Engineering Design Laboratory with projects in design and analysis of complex, computer-based systems, software engineering, symbolic visualization, and computer-guided, minimally invasive surgical training. The projects have been funded by the National Science Foundation, US Army, Siemens, Infineon Technologies, Rockwell, McDonnell Douglas, NASA, Raytheon, Semicon¬ductor Research Corporation, and Karl Storz Medical. Among several visiting assignments, he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Institute of Systems Science, Johannes Kepler University, Austria, Research Fellow at the US Army Research Laboratories, Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Munich, University of Perugia, and Fulbright Senior Specialist in Cracow, Poland. Currently, jointly with the Arizona Surgical Technology and Education Center, he is developing methods for computer guided, minimally invasive surgery.
