Postdoctoral position openings:    1
Start Date:  January 2009
Duration:  2 years
Annual Salary:  from $36,000 to $40,000
Description:
A Post-doctoral position in bioinformatics is available.  We are looking for a candidate with strong background in information theory, theoretical computer science, statistics, and genetics.  The postdoctoral researcher will be working on information theoretical, bioinformatics and experimental aspects of the NSF funded project Error Correction Algorithms for DNA Repair Inference, Analysis, and Intervention.  The bioinformatics work includes design of experiments for inferring functional patterns of gene interactions, and working with yeast databases such as SGD (extracting data necessary for creating and modeling genetic wiring diagrams).  The information theoretical problems are related graphical models, Boolean networks, constraint satisfiability problems, and codes on graphs.  The experimental work involves exposing yeast cells to different doses of ionizing radiation and recording gene expression levels using microarray screens.  No experimental experience is required.

Applications can be send to vasic@ece.arizona.edu and should include a CV, statement of research interests, and a statement addressing the following selection criteria:
A PhD in electrical and computer engineering, mathematics, computer science or closely related field
A publication record in either bioinformatics or information theory
Excellent programming skills; including C and Matlab
Well-developed organizational and project management skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
